After teaching memoir for many years I was determined to be more than a writing coach and story-catcher, holding hundreds of wonderful life stories in my heart. I decided to share some of the stories and collect more, providing a place to read about and remember our valuable lives.

For Girlhood in America, the first book in the 100 Years in the Life series, I interviewed women and girls around the country for their stories from the 1950s through the 2000s. Some of my memoir students contributed stories from around the country for the first four chapters—the 1910s through the 1940s.

Memoir is my passion, and I am fortunate to have worked with hundreds of women and men writing memoir.  (www.suzannesherman.com)

Besides being a memoir teacher, helping writers turn truth to art, I am an editor and book consultant, a writing coach, book editor, and ghostwriter. I have presented at writer’s conferences, including the California Writer’s Club at the National Steinbeck Center, Story Circle Network, and the National Association of Memoir Writers, and I have been a featured blogger for StoryCircleNetwork.org and WomensMemoirs.com.
